BUYER CHECKLIST · BLISTER EQUIPMENT PROCUREMENT

Choose a blister packaging machine supplier by the evidence behind the offered configuration: your product and materials, accepted output, inspection and rejection, factory tests, documents, integration and service terms.

How do you compare blister packaging machine suppliers?

Send each candidate the same product, pack drawing and requirement list. Ask for a line-by-line technical response, a representative trial plan and an itemized quotation. Resolve differences in scope before comparing prices, and put accepted results and responsibilities in the purchase documents.

For pharmaceutical buyers, production engineers and quality teams sourcing a standalone blister machine or a blister-to-carton line.

Give suppliers the same starting specification

A brochure describes a platform. Your requirement list defines the project. Start with a practical user requirement specification (URS) that procurement, engineering, production and quality can review together. Separate essential conditions from preferences and items still awaiting a decision.

Product and package

Product dimensions and handling needs; cavity and card drawings; forming and lidding grades, thicknesses and reel sizes; approved sample availability.

Output and formats

Accepted cards per hour, format mix, run conditions, changeovers, inspection tasks and any cards-per-carton count. Keep units consistent.

Site and delivery

Utilities, space and access; connected equipment; document language; installation, training, acceptance stages and requested service coverage.

If the packaging material or drawing is still undecided, identify that gap explicitly. Ask for a feasibility review and the sample work needed to finalize it. A provisional proposal should say which assumptions could change the machine, tooling, output or price.

Ask each candidate to return a requirement matrix with its response, evidence reference, offered option and any deviation. “Included,” “optional,” “excluded” and “to be confirmed” mean different things. A clear deviation with a proposed test is more informative than an unexplained claim of complete compliance.

A 10-point supplier comparison checklist

Use the same checklist for every bidder. Mark each item as evidenced, demonstration pending, contract clarification needed or outside the offer. Do not give an undocumented promise the same status as a reviewed record.

Assign mandatory criteria and any scoring weights with your own team before ranking candidates. There is no universal shortlist size or weight that fits every product, site and budget. Close essential feasibility and acceptance gaps before using small price differences to choose a supplier.

Verify capability with traceable trials and relevant references

Confirm who manufactures, integrates and services the offered equipment. Where another company provides a station or control system, ask how responsibilities and records flow through the contract. A sales office, a factory and a local service partner can each have useful roles; those roles need to be explicit.

For a reference project, ask what is comparable: dosage form, material route, pack geometry, inspection, output boundary and downstream interface. Customer contacts or site visits require the reference customer’s permission. Where confidential records cannot be shared, agree a suitable redacted example or a specific demonstration instead of treating a logo as proof.

Before a trial

Agree the product or justified surrogate, production materials, tooling, test method, sample quantity, operating conditions and pass criteria. Record anything that differs from the intended production setup.

During a trial

Record the configuration, samples, settings, counts, stops and relevant challenged faults. Product-presence detection, physical rejection and seal quality are different tasks; test the functions actually quoted.

After a trial

Review results against the approved protocol, assign deviations and retain retest evidence. Specify which results apply to the tested configuration and what remains to be demonstrated with site conditions or connected equipment.

A factory visit, live remote witnessing or a combined arrangement should be chosen by the buyer’s team from the test needs, risks and available evidence. A short demonstration video is insufficient where traceable results and challenge tests are required. Do not assume that every remote FAT is unacceptable or that physical attendance alone establishes acceptance.

Use the blister packing machine FAT checklist to develop the detailed protocol. Supplier screening checks whether a credible acceptance plan exists; the FAT guide explains individual test areas.

Review software access, electronic records and qualification scope

Identify the PLC, HMI, drives, inspection system and relevant software. Review the rights and practical tools needed for operation, recipe management, diagnostics, backups and restoration. Source-code access, licensed tools and protected vendor components should be addressed separately rather than compressed into an “open PLC” label.

A branded controller does not, by itself, establish audit trails, electronic signatures or regulatory suitability. Ask the supplier to demonstrate the electronic-record functions in the offered configuration. FDA’s Part 11 scope and application guidance ties applicability to required records and their electronic use. Your quality team should document the intended use and applicable requirements.

For remote support, agree authorization, security policy, connection method, access limits and session records with your site’s IT team. Review whether troubleshooting remains possible when external access is unavailable. Serviceability is a defined process, not a promise implied by a component brand.

List qualification-support documents and their delivery stages in the offer. Supplier templates or factory test records can support the buyer’s work; they do not replace approval and execution of the customer’s site qualification and process-validation plan. Confirm ownership of site-specific protocols, execution, deviations and continued production monitoring.

Likewise, a general “GMP compliant” statement or a certificate image does not answer a product-specific equipment question. Check the document’s issuer, entity, scope and relevance, then review the actual construction, functions and records against your requirements. Material grades, surface criteria and cleaning methods need their project basis rather than a single universal value.

Compare the complete offered scope before comparing price

A lower base-machine price can reflect a different feeder, inspection task, tooling quantity, documentation package or delivery boundary. Request current, itemized quotations on the same basis. An old project price is not a current quote for your configuration.

Use the blister packing machine price guide to review cost drivers, tooling and delivery inclusions against the same required configuration.

Engineering insight: compare cost per accepted pack with a defined boundary

For illustration only, a defined annual cost of USD 120,000 divided by 6,000,000 accepted blister cards equals USD 0.020 per accepted card. With the same cost but 4,000,000 accepted cards, it equals USD 0.030. These are hypothetical numbers, not HIJ prices, savings or production results.

Agree what the numerator includes and use the same period and accepted-pack boundary for every option. If you include machine capital costs, state the allocation method; do not count the purchase price and its allocated portion twice. Treat forecast output as an assumption until supported by suitable evidence. A faster motion rate alone cannot establish a lower production cost.

Ask for tooling and sample-trial lead times, component availability, production scheduling and the approval steps that affect shipment. A written schedule with dependencies is more useful than an unsupported fixed delivery promise.

Check the relevant HIJ platform against your product

The following references help start a technical discussion. Final selection depends on the exact pack, materials, feeding, inspection and accepted-output requirement.

DPP-260 / DPP-360K flat-plate equipment

The supplied combined technical document describes positive-pressure thermoforming, flat sealing, modular station changes and missing-product detection/rejection, with configuration alternatives. Confirm the exact model and supplied options in the offer. Do not transfer one table or trial result to every model in a combined document.

Review the DPP-260 blister machine reference and submit your product and material specification for a configuration review.

DPH380B roller-plate equipment

The supplied DPH380B document describes roller heat sealing, servo-controlled motion and material/temperature protection. Compare the offered forming route, feed arrangement, inspection and seal process with your pack. Motion frequency and finished-card output are different quantities.

Start with the HIJ blister packing machine range or the DPP vs. DPH buyer comparison; confirm the actual architecture rather than relying only on model letters.

PBL-400S-400SF blister-to-carton line

The supplied project file covers glass pre-filled syringes and ampoules with forming, loading, inspection, sealing, punching, leaflet handling and cartoning. Its 8,000 pieces/hour project basis is not a universal accepted-carton rate. Ask how the product count, cards per carton and connected test boundary apply to your project.

Review the blister-cartoning line configuration. For broader delivery planning, discuss the turnkey packaging line scope and name the owner of each interface.

Prepare a practical supplier RFQ for HIJ

Send the information you already have. HIJ can review your product, intended package and target output, identify configuration questions and prepare an offer for the agreed scope. Unfinished drawings or unknown materials should be listed as open items.

Optional project brief

Prepare a message here, then review it in the existing inquiry form before sending.

Review the message before submitting. Preparing or copying a brief does not send an inquiry.

Questions buyers ask before selecting a supplier

How do I compare blister packaging machine suppliers?

Give candidates the same product, pack drawings, materials and accepted-output requirement. Compare technical responses, relevant evidence, trials, included functions and responsibilities before comparing prices. Put open questions and deviations into the review record.

Should I choose a manufacturer or an integrator?

Evaluate who builds, configures, integrates and supports each part of the offer. A manufacturer, integrator or authorized service partner may suit the project when capability and responsibility are evidenced. The company label alone does not establish product fit or acceptance.

What should I send with a blister machine RFQ?

Start with product dimensions and handling needs, blister/card drawings, forming and lidding specifications, accepted output, SKU mix, inspection requirements and site details. Add downstream equipment, FAT and document needs. Mark anything undecided as an open item.

Can I compare supplier quotes using cycles per minute?

Only when the pack layout and timing basis are also known. Cycles, cards and cartons are different units. Compare accepted packs over an agreed elapsed period, with reject and stop treatment stated, rather than treating a motion rate as guaranteed finished output.

Must every FAT be witnessed in person?

The buyer’s team should agree the witnessing arrangement and evidence from the project needs and risks. In-person or remote witnessing needs an approved protocol, traceable conditions, results and deviation handling. A demonstration video alone does not establish acceptance.

Does a Siemens or Omron PLC make a machine Part 11 compliant?

A controller brand does not demonstrate the required record functions. Review the intended use, applicable requirements, access controls, records, audit-trail functions where relevant, backup and retention, and the offered configuration’s tests with your quality team.

Are qualification documents and installation included in the price?

Only when the offer names the documents, revisions, delivery stages, site tasks and responsibilities. Confirm training, travel, utilities, samples, connected tests and qualification-support boundaries separately. Supplier templates do not replace the buyer’s site-specific approval and execution.

How can I get a meaningful HIJ quotation?

Send the product and package requirements, accepted-output target, materials, inspection tasks, destination and requested machine or line scope. HIJ can review open questions and prepare an itemized configuration offer. Price and lead time depend on the scope confirmed in that offer.

Evidence and scope of this guide

Prepared by HIJ Machinery using the supplied DPP-260/360K, DPH380B and PBL-400S-400SF technical documents. Model descriptions are configuration references; the final offer and approved test records govern a specific project.

The FDA source linked in the controls section supports the electronic-record scope discussion. This guide does not establish regulatory approval, universal test limits, current machine prices or independently verified customer outcomes.
